OUR STORY
42 West Design was founded by Ron — an artist and creative director whose path runs from fine art studios to commercial design at the highest level. The studio takes its name from the meridian it calls home, and from the conviction that great design occupies a precise coordinate between art and commerce that most studios never find.
With studios in Miami, New York, and San Diego, the practice spans three of America's most creative cities. The Miami studio is where the work begins — shaped by the city's light, its Latin American influence, and its unapologetic boldness. New York brings rigor: editorial discipline, the demands of sophisticated markets, the pace of a city that has no patience for mediocrity. San Diego contributes calm precision and a Pacific point of view that allows us to see the broader design landscape without bias.
Ron's background in fine art is not incidental to the commercial work — it is the source of it. When you have spent years building form from nothing, working with the strictest constraints of painting and sculpture, the commercial brief becomes a canvas with welcome limits. That discipline — the insistence on getting composition, weight, contrast, and spatial relationships exactly right — is what separates our work from design produced by committees following trends. We build brands the way artists build bodies of work: with intent, over time, without compromise.
